The chairman of the Hyde County Board of Commissioners, David

Styron, said Sunday that the property tax rate for Ocracoke Island

could drop as much as 20 cents in 1995. Styron was quoted in

Sunday's paper, saying that the 1994 tax rate of $1.05 could not

drop more than 5 cents this year. ``Based on my current

projections,'' Styron said Sunday, ``I don't see how the tax rate

could get below 85 cents for 1995 assessments.''
