John Cooke Jarvis Sr., 86, of the 1100 block of Bolling Ave., died Monday, Jan. 16, 1995, in a Norfolk hospital.
He was owner of the John C. Jarvis Company, which was the local manufacturers representative for The World's Finest Chocolate Company.
Mr. Jarvis was born in Norfolk and was the son of the late William Graham and Beatrice Kay Jarvis. He was a graduate of Maury High School and attended the University of Virginia. He was a longtime member of Freemason Street Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, a member of the Owens Masonic Lodge (NU)164 and the Norfolk Host Lions Club.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean Stephens Jarvis; and a son, John C. Jarvis Jr. of Norfolk.
A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Dr. Donald J. Dunlap and Dr. William L. Lumpkin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund of Freemason Street Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1739, Norfolk, Va. 23501. Cox Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
