COUNCILMAN MAY LEAVE ELIZABETH CITY BOSOMWORTH WOULD HAVE TO LEAVE HIS POST ON THE COUNCIL.

City Councilman David P. Bosomworth is considering building a house on property that would take him outside the city limits - and off the City Council.

Bosomworth, in the final year of his first term on the council, said Monday that he and his wife, Phyllis, are moving ahead with plans for building on a half-acre just out of town between Winslow Acres and the Coast Guard base.

But Bosomworth added that his term could run out this fall before his possible new residence becomes an issue.

``I really don't know,'' he said, adding that plans for the property have changed more than once since the Bosomworths bought it about two years ago. ``We're still working on the site. . . . It just depends how things go.''

The Bosomworths live on Rivershore Road and are not yet planning to sell their house. The new house, if built, would be only one lot outside city limits, Bosomworth said.

``We have an opportunity to be on the river, so that's the thing that we're interested in doing,'' said Bosomworth, 63, a retired Coast Guard captain. ``But how soon that's going to come to pass, I don't know.''

Bosomworth, who chairs the council's Finance Committee, said he will give ``serious consideration'' to running for a second term if he is still in the city come filing time this summer.

``We're flexible,'' Bosomworth said of the home-building plans. ``If it works it works; if it doesn't work it doesn't work. . . . These things just have a way of, you know, sort of stretching out.'' by CNB
