LUCIA W. WOODLAN

Lucia Wheary Woodlan, 49, died Jan. 18, 1995, in Norfolk in the home of her parents.

She lived most of her life in Norfolk and graduated from Maury High School and Averett College in Danville, Va. She was a Protestant and was a member of the Town Point Yacht Club.

She had a lifelong love for the water and enjoyed sailboat racing and cruising. She was the first female to win the Hampton One Design Class at the Maury Regatta. She sailed from Norfolk to Toronto with the Tall Ships Parade of Sails in connection with the 450th anniversary of the founding of Toronto. She was a volunteer for numerous organizations serving the maritime community. She was a Harborfest volunteer for many years serving as a ship's liaison for visiting Tall Ships. She was a member of Nautical Adventures, Inc., the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and was a docent for the Lifesaving Museum of Virginia. She was employed by Coastline Electronics, Inc. in Hampton. She previously was employed for several years by Chesapeake Sailing Association of Norfolk, and she had been a marina manager in Deltaville, Va.

Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William A. Wheary Jr. of Norfolk; a brother, William A. Wheary III also of Norfolk; a sister, Julie W. Johnson of Suffolk; and three nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted Friday, Jan. 20, 1995, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Steven E. Frazier at Second Presbyterian Church of Norfolk. The family will receive friends at her parents' home, 5415 Studeley Ave. today from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lifenet Memorial Fund, for organ transplants, 5809 Ward Court, Virginia Beach, Va. 23455.
