Doris P. Hicks Waring, 67, of the 200 block of Woodstock St., a retired nurse's assistant after 10 years, died Jan. 19, 1995 in Lake Taylor Hospital, Norfolk.
Mrs. Waring was born in Norfolk County. She retired from Portsmouth Home Health Care and Upjohns Nursing Company, was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Senior Choir and Pastors Aid of Ebenezer Baptist Church, and a member of the Helping Hand Club. She was also a member of Ladies Auxiliary, Fleet Reserve (NU)257 and Household of Ruth.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Waring; two daughters, Linnea P. Palmer and Daphne Waring-Sorrell; her mother, Irene Carney Johnson; and a sister, Velma Hicks Martin, all of Portsmouth; a stepbrother, Edward R. Hicks of Chesapeake; three grandchildren, Richard Palmer, Kerry Sorrell and Brandie Palmer, all of Portsmouth; son-in-law Douglas Palmer of Portsmouth; and one uncle, one aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Ben A. Beamer. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will begin at 2 p.m. today at Corprew Funeral Home, where the family will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
