The Norfolk Masjid and Islamic School will hold its third annual education banquet at 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday in the National Guard Armory, 3777 Virginia Beach Blvd.
The event will promote the theme of today's children becoming leaders instead of becoming involved with drugs and crime, said Iman Abdul Khabeer of the Norfolk Masjid, or mosque.
``We want to motivate our children, not only in religion, but in politics and social life,'' he said.
Keynote speaker will be Sheik Abdalla Idris Ali, principal of an Islamic school in Ontario, Canada. Other speakers will include Norfolk Mayor Paul D. Fraim; Barbara Higgins, principal of Monroe Elementary School; and Alphonso Albert, executive director of the Park Place Community Development Corp.
Proceeds from the banquet will benefit the local Islamic school, which was founded in 1992.
Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door at suggested donations of $25 for adults and $10 for children. Call 623-2628 or 623-1713. by CNB
