Charles Russell Chappell, 68, of the 2900 block of Whaleyville Blvd., died Jan. 22, 1995, in Obici Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Chappell was born in Perquimans County, N.C. He had retired from Ford Motor Co. Norfolk Assembly Plant as a supervisor. He was a member of Liberty Spring Christian Church and was Army veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by his parents, Sarah Skinner Chappell and Charles Linford Chappell.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Ward Chappell; a daughter, Mary Angela Chaney of South Hill, Va.; a son, C. Russell Chappell Jr. of Suffolk; two sisters, Mary C. Blanchard and Bessie C. Parker, both of Suffolk; three brothers, Robert Preston Chappell of Cusseta, Ga. and James Linford Chappell and Wallace E. Griffin Jr., both of Suffolk; and three grandsons, Charles Thaddeus Chappell, Henry Lee Chaney III and Mark Allen Chaney.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home by the Rev. Martin Chappell, the Rev. Henry L. Chaney and the Rev. Joseph A. Talley. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday and other times at the home of his son, 3716 Arcanum Lane, Suffolk.
