Lowe's is holding grand opening ceremonies Thursday for two new superstores - one in Chesapeake at 10 a.m. and one in Virginia Beach - at 10:30 a.m. The stores are at 1308 Battlefield Blvd. and 3565 Holland Road.
The ceremonies will include the traditional ``board cutting'' by company officials and local dignitaries. Each of the stores also will present $1,000 in charitable donations to the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters and $1,000 to the Virginia Beach Fire Depart-ment/KIDZSHOW.
Special events, promotions, demonstrations and prize giveaways will continue as part of the grand opening throughout the weekend.
Both new superstores house 150,000-plus square feet of retail space with accompanying lawn and garden centers. The stores offer more than 40,000 different home improvement items.
Business hours for both stores are from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
An existing Lowe's at 1752 S. Military Highway will be renamed ``The Contractor Yard'' and be converted to a contractor-dedicated business that will offer services that are relevant to professional builders needs. by CNB
