SURFER HONORED

Outer Banks resident Brant Wise was elected to one of five top positions in the national Surfrider Foundation on Saturday in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Wise, who founded the Surfrider Foundation's Outer Banks chapter in 1991, formerly served as the local group's president. For the past year, Wise has been one of 15 members of the Surfrider Foundation's National Board of Directors.

On Saturday, he was elected chairman of the board, which entitles him to serve as one of five members of the national Surfrider Foundation's Executive Committee.

In his new post, Wise will conduct all national Surfrider Foundation meetings and will attend at least one executive committee meeting each month. Wise will be board chairman for one year. He was elected by the Board of Directors.

Wise lives on Colington Island with his wife, Maria. He works for Coastal Engineering in Kitty Hawk. He also serves as a member of Dare County's Clean Water Advisory Committee.

A 10-year-old organization with 22 chapters across the United States and more than 25,000 members, Surfrider Foundation is a nonprofit environmental group dedicated to protecting and enhancing the world's waves and beaches.
