Alvan ``Pappy'' Williams, 88, of the 3500 block of Pine Road, a retired sales supervisor, died Jan. 31, 1995 in his residence.
He was a native of Pasquotank County, N.C., retired from Mary Jane Bakery after 40 years, was a member of Western Branch Baptist Church and a former deacon. He was awarded the distinguished salesman of the year award in 1962 from Mary Jane Bakery.
Survivors include his wife, Mary ``Ms. Eunice'' Williams; a daughter, Annis W. Welt and son-in-law George A. Welt Sr., both of Portsmouth; a brother, Roy A. Williams of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Nancy W. Schwarz, George A. Welt Jr., Stephen W. Welt and Bruce A. Welt, all of Portsmouth; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was a son of the late Ella Williams and William Thomas Williams.
A funeral will be conducted at 11a.m. Friday at Loving Funeral Home, Churchland, by the Rev. George Mullinax. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the endowment fund of Western Branch Baptist Church.
