Mildred Coulbourn Turner, 86, of West Point, died February 9, 1995, at the Sentara Nursing Home in Virginia Beach.
Born in Coldwater, King and Queen County, Virginia, on October 3, 1908, she was the daughter of the late James Henry Coulbourn and Daisy Hayman Coulbourn.
Mrs. Turner was a graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman's College and a member of West Point United Methodist Church. She was the first president of the Junior Woman's Club of King and Queen County and the first Worthy Matron of the Riverview Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Horace Turner, and two sisters, Catherine Coulbourn Burton and Virginia Coulbourn Lee.
Mrs. Turner is survived by three daughters, Rebecca Turner Pallette of Virginia Beach, Joyce Turner Kerns of Charlottesville, and Brenda Turner Woodie of Hilton Head, S.C.; one son, James Addison Turner of West Point; five grandchildren, Jeffrey A. Powell and Lesley Lynne Hughes, both of Virginia Beach, Lisa Woodie Chumbler of Waycross, Ga., Richard W. Woodie of Washington, D.C., and Suzanne D. Kerns of Northampton, MA; and three great-grandchildren, Richard A. Powell, Turner A. Hughes, and Stuart T. Hughes, all of Virginia Beach.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 1995, at Vincent Funeral Home, West Point.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that memorials be made to the West Point United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 610, West Point, VA 23181.
