A total of 279,595 people visited the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island in 1994. That was 23 percent below the 1993 turnout, when admission was free.
``We had been told to expect a 30 to 35 percent decrease when we started charging admission,'' said director Rhett B. White. ``We have been pleased with visitation and implementation of the admission system.''
Admission fees, which started May 1, are $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and $1 for children ages 6 to 17. by CNB
