Landmark Communications Inc. plans to launch a new travel-related venture.
The Vacation Store, a nationwide vacation-package marketing company, will begin operating Monday out of offices on Greenwich Road in Virginia Beach.
The packages will be marketed by The Vacation Store on The Travel Channel cable-TV network, which is also owned by Norfolk-based Landmark. The new venture will use direct mail and other promotions to sell the vacation accommodations, including transportation, meals and entertainment.
The Vacation Store will have a toll-free number for people who want to call about its vacation packages. Advisors will be available 24 hours a day.
David Kaufman and David Wolfe will be chief executive officer and chief operating officer, respectively, for the new venture.
Landmark has a number of other media holdings, including The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star, The Weather Channel, a European TV network called ``travel'' and TV stations in Nashville, Tenn., and Las Vegas, Nev.
