A 14-year-old boy has been suspended and faces charges in connection with the classroom stabbing of two other students at Windsor Middle/High School this week.
The incident apparently began with a name-calling and shoving match between two teenagers Thursday in an art class, Isle of Wight Sheriff's Capt. Riddle Hines said Friday. A 15-year-old kicked or knocked a chair from under the 14-year-old in the class about 3 p.m. Thursday, Hines said.
``The boy fell on the floor, and he grabbed an X-acto knife - and they went at it.''
Hines said the 14-year-old cut the 15-year-old twice on his upper arm, requiring 11 stitches at Obici Hospital in Suffolk. A 17-year-old who tried to separate the two was slightly cut on the wrist and was treated by a private doctor, Hines said.
It was still unclear Friday just why the fight occurred, Hines said. The art teacher was helping another student clean up spilled paint when the fight began.
Hines said the 14-year-old has been charged with two counts of unlawful wounding, a felony, and was suspended from school. The 15-year-old who reportedly kicked the chair out from under the 14-year-old has been charged with misdemeanor assault.
