A while back, I wrote in this space that producing a column is akin to tossing paper airplanes: Sometimes luck guides a column to exactly the right place, which you know when readers respond; sometimes they crash, which you know when readers respond; and sometimes they just seem to go into orbit, neither crashing nor landing.
It's not uncommon, though, to have someone, long after the column has left the files of my mind, discuss a topic that I'd placed among the orbiters.
The point of all this is to emphasize how important you are in our business. The Sun staff not only enjoys hearing from you, we get our best ideas from you.
We want our pages to be a community forum, so use the vehicles for you to have your say: Letters to the editor (157 N. Main St., Suffolk, VA 23434); Comment Line (446-2494); guest columns (up to 500 words); Fax (934-7515) and by computer: pruitt(AT)infi.net
We welcome visits to our new office and opportunities to visit schools, clubs and organizations. Give journalists the chance, and they'll talk!
For now, though, your turn:
These were among recorded responses to columns on Feb. 5 and Feb. 9:
Feb. 5: Neighborhood Ripped by its inattention:
I applaud the article, and I think that Jolliff Woods should just go back to sleep and not worry about Suffolk's issues.
They weren't prepared. They've been asleep for a long time.

I just wanted to make the comment that I applaud the mayor, Chris Jones, for the fact that he is sticking to what he believes in and that's he not letting a group of people who are acting like schoolchildren get their way.
I think the people of Jolliff Woods should put their wallets in their pocketbooks, put their tails between their legs and go back to Chesapeake and not worry about Suffolk issues.

I'm calling regards to Chris Jones, the mayor of Suffolk.
He is an elected official, elected by the people. And I think, as far as Suffolk is concerned, it's very fortunate to have him.

I very much disagree with the article, and I find it inflammatory and full of errors.
I have spoken to my local government, and they were not informed in two letters (about the proposed track in Suffolk ) as he states in this column. Local government was not informed.
I would expect that Mr. Pruitt would be big enough to print a retraction in the newspaper.

I'd just like to say I hope that, for once in this area, people don't let the view and ideas of a few hundred people dictate what happens to the south of us who have to live in this area.
I hope it doesn't happen with the race track. It seems to happen with everything else around here, and I hope something can be done about it.

Feb. 9: Meet in the aisles for dodge-the-carts
I was delighted to see it.
I shop at Food Lion in Suffolk, and it's awful. You see a friend that you haven't seen in weeks, months, years, and try to chat with them for a minute, and you cannot do it. You have to keep moving.
Thanks again for the article. Good work.

I just wanted to let you know I thought your article today was very good.
The next thing we're going to need is a stoplight at the end of the aisles.
