Katherine Broughton Pilley, 97, died Feb. 11, 1995, in the National Lutheran Home, Rockville, Md. Mrs. Pilley was the widow of Charles F. Pilley and the daughter of the late Kate Willett and John Broughton.
A graduate of Farmville State Teachers College, she taught for several years before working in the fiscal department of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the First Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Pilley is survived by her daughter, Charlotte P. Shepard of Norfolk, and son, C. Frank Pilley and his wife, Judy, of Fairfax. She is also survived by four grandsons and a great-grandson. They are Allen W. Shepard and his wife, Jeanne, of Chesapeake, Lt. Steven B. Shepard and Charles F. Pilley of Fairfax and Michael B. Pilley of Charleston, S.C. The great-grandson is Nicholas G. Shepard of Chesapeake. Mrs. Pilley is also survived by her sister, Alliene Broughton of Rockville, Md., and her brother, Walton Broughton of Norfolk.
A graveside service will be held in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk, on Feb. 15 at 1 p.m.
