HERBERT O. MITCHELL

Herbert Otho Mitchell, 84, of the 500 block of Englewood Drive, died Feb. 12, 1995, in Virginia Beach.

Mr. Mitchell was born in Huddleston, Va. He had retired from the Oceana Naval Air Station after 27 years of service. Mr. Mitchell then worked as a building inspector with the Department of Permits and Inspections of the City of Virginia Beach and retired after 13 years of service. He was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, Norfolk, and was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose and the Portsmouth Knight of Pythias. He was a former president of the Princess Anne Civic Council.

Survivors include his wife, Grace T. Mitchell; a stepson, Larry A. Smith of Chesapeake and also survived by two stepdaughters; two nieces, Carolyn S. Evans of Alabama and Brenda S. Little of Virginia Beach; one nephew, Milton E. Strawhand Jr. of Chesapeake; two stepgrandsons, Gene Bonney and Jerry Bonney; and one stepgranddaughter, Trish Newton.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Paul D. Moore. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach S.P.C.A. at 3040 Holland Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23456 or Acredale Animal Hospital.
