RESTRICT GUNS

Regarding ``Police chief seeks to placate angry gun dealers'' (news, Feb. 1): Norfolk and Chesapeake should stay joined in doing everything they can to keep guns out of the hands of wanted or convicted criminals.

With 24 years of law-enforcement experience with the city of Norfolk, I can only hope that City Council will not repeal or change the law to accommodate a few gun dealers. Instead, all cities should be urged to join Norfolk and Chesapeake.

If the $24 fee charged by the FBI for a criminal-background check on handgun buyers is all it costs to keep guns from wanted or convicted criminals, I say that is money well-spent.
