REV. REGINALD W. VANDERBERRY

The Reverend Reginald W. Vanderberry of Regent, died peacefully Monday, Feb. 13, 1995. He was 95 years of age.

Reginald Vanderberry is survived by his daughter, Mary V. Morris of Wilmington, N.C.; sons, R. William Vanderberry of Charlottesville and James G. Vanderberry of Winston-Salem, N.C.; their spouses and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two nieces and other relatives and friends.

Reverend Vanderberry was a retired minister of the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church and had served pastorates in Winchester, Hopewell, Lawrenceville, Varina, Falls Church, Farmville, Irvington, Richmond and Norfolk. He was noted for the financing and the building of Methodist churches and related facilities and served as the first administrator of the Roanoke Methodist Home for the Aging, where he organized and expanded the home. He was secretary-treasurer of the Virginia Conference Brotherhood for over 50 years. He was an active member of the Masons for many years and was a member, officer or director of various civic and church related organizations. He had written numerous articles for various publications and wrote a regular weekly column ``The Quiet Place,'' for the Southside Sentinel in Urbanna for a number of years.

Reverend Vanderberry was born in Norfolk, Va., Jan. 26, 1900 to James Henry and Arvilla Davis Vanderberry and was married to Mary Estelle Whitehurst, also of that city, who died in 1970. He was educated in the public schools of Norfolk and graduated from Randolph-Macon College, where he was active in student life and remained a devoted and faithful alumnus.

Funeral services will be held at the Lower United Methodist Church in Hartfield at noon Thursday, Feb. 16. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Robert L. Morris Jr., Pastor, will officiate.

Reverend Vanderberry was Pastor Emeritus of the Lower Church. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Lower United Methodist Church Children's Playground, which bears his name, P.O. Box 98, Hartfield, Va. 23071.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda.
