Newport News Shipbuilding is one of six shipyards worldwide waiting to here whether it will build up to three massive double-hull tankers for a Canadian joint venture. The contract could help save jobs at the giant shipyard. Hibernia Lifting, a venture between U.S. and Canadian oil producers, and the Canadian government, plans to use the 120,000-ton vessels to shuttle oil between offshore platforms and the mainland.
