This week, the Dare County Tourism Board approved funding for six projects to be undertaken in the 1995-96 fiscal year. Money will come from the Tourism Board's Short-Term Restricted Fund Program. Agencies sponsoring the projects will have to match the grant amounts with their own funds.
Before any money actually is awarded, however, the Dare County Board of Commissioners will have to vote on each project.
Projects recommended for funding include:
Kill Devil Hills - a beach access for Prospect Avenue, $32,500
Kill Devil Hills - a bike path for Veterans Drive, $32,500
Hatteras Island Business Association - bike path from Hatteras Village to Buxton, $50,000
Dare County Parks and Recreation Department - bleacher seating for the 1996 Babe Ruth World Series, $60,000
Nags Head - estuarine access and interpretative site on the causeway, $37,030
Roanoke Island Commission - underground power lines, $30,000
Projects will have to be completed in one year. Funds come from 25 percent of the one-percent occupancy and one-percent meals tax. Long-term projects also share those funds. by CNB
