Daily Break, Feb. 3: Liberty University's debate team ``is ranked first in the country, eclipsing the likes of Harvard and Northwestern.'' Liberty is a Christian college. The students lean on the conservative side.
Perspectives page columnist Donald Kaul, Feb. 3: ``Carried into office on a wave of ignorance, superstition and intolerance, they (the Republicans, mainly New Conservatives) are anxious to pander to the anti-intellectual prejudices of their constituency. . . .''
Talk about prejudices! Here's one of ``their constituency'' with an I.Q. of 139 and a master's degree in statistics who is tired of having my mental ability questioned by pseudo-intellectuals who do not understand simple democracy. They would like to bully anyone who does not pander to their liberal ideals into feeling unenlightened with words like homophobic, pinhead and yahoo.
Liberals love to hide behind words like pro-choice; it sounds so much nicer than pro-abortion. I guess you could call the author of the Kansas-Nebraska Act, Stephen Douglas, pro-choice. He gained national fame from a series of debates with Abraham Lincoln. Although Douglas claimed that he thought slavery was immoral, his Kansas-Nebraska Act provided that the people in these territories should choose whether the territories would join the Union as slave or as free states.
Take a lesson from the Liberty U team. Stick to the facts and debate issues honestly.
