The Reverend Jane Anderson Morse, former resident of Norfolk and former Director of Christian Education and parishioner at Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church, died on Saturday after a brief hospitalization for an undiagnosed illness.
The Rev. Morse was Professor of Old Testament at Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria, Va., from which she had graduated cum laude in 1986. She was a doctoral candidate at Yale University, Department of Religion, where she studied for five years. Her previous education included a BA from Connecticut College for Women in 1965, and an MAT (English) from Salem State College in 1968. The Rev. Morse was a canonical resident of the Dioceses of Southern Virginia.
Prof. Morse is survived by her husband, Clayton of Alexandria; her daughter, Sarah of Waterford, Conn.; her son, Benjamin of New York City; and her mother, Adele Anderson, brother, Ralph Anderson and sister, Ingrid Rollins, all of Massachusetts.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Virginia Seminary Chapel, Alexandria, Va. Memorial gifts may be made to Virginia Theological Seminary for the Jane A. Morse Fund for Biblical Language Studies, and to Lee's Friends, Norfolk, Va.
