Two New Orleans staples - food and jazz - are the draws for a fund-raiser Monday for The Dwelling Place, a non-profit emergency shelter for families.
The event, called Mardi Gras for The Dwelling Place, will be at The Bienville Grill, 723 W. 21st St., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets cost $20 plus tax and tip. Featured artists include pianist John Toomey with bassist Jim Masters, plus singer and pianist Connie Parker with her band, ``The Good Life.''
There will be a three-course creole dinner by Bienville Grill and desserts by Rowena's. The musicians and restaurant staffs are donating their time and talent.
The Dwelling Place is a United Way Agency that occupies two large houses on West 37th Street and provides housing for about 175 homeless families and 600 persons a year - an average of 40 days each.
