A KITCHEN CATALOG, COURTESY OF LILLIAN

LOOK OUT Williams-Sonoma.

Lillian Vernon, the queen of catalog sales, is unleashing her first kitchen catalog this week.

Forty-eight slick pages are filled with cookware, tableware, flatware and glassware. Along with cutlery, small appliances, utensils, herb gardens, vases and linens. Everything you'd need for a trendy kitchen.

Some of our favorite items include two (40-ounce) glass pitchers, slim enough to fit in the refrigerator door ($9.98); a set of 12 cotton dish towels ($9.98) and a set of nine glass bowls in 1-ounce to 3-quart sizes ($19.98).

A few recipes, and foodstuffs such as peppercorns, are tucked among the product descriptions.

For a free catalog, call (800) 285-5555. Specify if you want the kitchen catalog. Mardi Gras Benefit

Mike Hall, chef and owner of the Bienville Grill in Norfolk, is giving up his night off to lend support to the Dwelling Place, an area shelter for homeless families.

From 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Hall and his staff will host a Mardi Gras party - complete with choice of garden salad or Creole sausage gumbo; chicken, shrimp and andouille sausage jambalaya or crawfish etouffee; assorted muffins, breads, coffee and tea. Desserts are compliments of Rowena's in Norfolk.

There will be jazz to enjoy, and the $20 per-person admission will go to the shelter. For more information, call the Bienville Grill at 625-5427, or the Dwelling Place at 624-9879. Vegetarian Club

If you like meatless menus, try the Vegetarian Supper Club. It's kind of a support group for vegetarians in Hampton Roads and for folks who are thinking about becoming non-meateaters..

The club will gather at 7 p.m. Saturday at Nawab Restaurant in Norfolk for an all-you-can buffet. Cost is $11.95 per person, not including tax and tip. For more information, call Lynn Bernard, club secretary, at 463-2609. ILLUSTRATION: [Color photo]
