Dr. L. D. Britt, a native of Suffolk, has been named to the Brickhouse Chair in Surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School.
Britt, who is professor and chairman of general surgery at EVMS, is the first to hold the honorary title. It was established following a $600,000 gift to EVMS from the estate of Edward J. Brickhouse, a Norfolk businessman and philanthropist.
Brickhouse, who died in 1983, named the medical school as one of the residual beneficiaries of his estate. Funds from the Brickhouse endowment will support educational and research activities at EVMS.
Britt is chief of the school's division of trauma and critical care medicine and medical director of the EVMS/Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Shock Trauma Center. by CNB
