Byrdie Ellis Flanagan, 86, of 5000 Fairbanks Ave, died Feb. 24, 1995, at the United Methodist Hermitage of Northern Va.
Born July 27, 1908, in Corapeake, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Bessie Byrd Ellis. Reared in Suffolk, Va., she attended Suffolk High and was a former member of Main Street United Meth. Church. She and her late husband, John D. Flanagan Sr., married January, 1929, lived in Norfolk and were active members of Larchmont United Meth. Church until they moved to the Hermitage in 1976. Until 1984, when she was stricken with Alzheimer's, she was an active member of St. James United Meth. Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John D. and Betty McIntyre Flanagan of Mount Jackson; her daughter and son-in-law, Sarah F. and Elmer J. Weich of Joppa, Md.; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary E. and Richard Solomon of Suffolk; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home by Dr. Alan Felumlee and Dr. Louis Morgan. Burial will be in Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hermitage of Northern Va., 5000 Fairbanks Ave, Alexandria, Va. 22300.
