LALA M. GARRETT

Lala Meriton Felton Garrett, 79, of the 900 block of Workwood Road, died Feb. 24, 1995, in Lake Taylor Hospital of natural causes.

Mrs. Garrett was born in Chowan County, N.C. and was retired from the cafeteria of Norfolk State University. She was the widow of Johnnie Garrett and was a member of Queen Street Baptist Church, Norfolk. She was also a deaconess and involved in Maime Lee Missionary Circle. She was predeceased by her parents, Frances and Perlie Felton.

Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Ann Slater of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; one son, Joseph L. Garrett Sr. of Oxon Hill, Md.; two brothers, Willis Felton and Davie Lee Felton, both of Edenton, N.C.; five grandchildren, Cynthia Garrett and Joseph Garrett Jr., both of Norfolk, Tracee Falconer of Norfolk, Shauntee Atwater of Maryland, and Jamaal Slater of New York; two great-grandchildren, Amber Garrett and Alessandre Falconer, both of Norfolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral will be conducted Wednesday, March 1, 1995, at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Peter M. Wherry in Queen Street Baptist Church, Norfolk. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. The family will greet friends and assemble for services at 240 Lavalette Ave., Norfolk. The processional will begin at noon. The remains may be viewed at Hale Funeral Home, or prior to the service at Queen Street.
