CHARLES W. BRADFORD JR.

Charles Wise Bradford Jr., 82, of the 900 block of Norview Ave., a retired printer, died Feb. 26, 1995 in his home.

Mr. Bradford was born in Norfolk and retired from The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star after 40 years of service. He was a member of Lafayette Presbyterian Church and former member of Eastville Episcopal Church. He was husband of the late Thelma Johnson Bradford, his first wife of 33 years, and of the late Sara Byrum Bradford, his second wife of 24 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles W. Bradford Sr., who was born in Eastville, Va. and Isabel Wagner Bradford, who was born in Shippensburg, Pa.

Survivors include a daughter, Wilma B. Ford of Norfolk; two stepdaughters, Sandra B. Wood of Portsmouth and Mary E. Ricketts of Norfolk; a stepson, Donald Roy Byrum of Wichita, Kan.; a stepson, Donald Roy Byrum of Wichita; two twin sisters, Katharine B. Elliott of Hillsdale, N.J. and Isabel B. Byers of Enterprise, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Lafayette Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Max G. Culler. Burial will be in the Bradford Family Cemetery in Wilsonia Neck, Va. The family will receive friends in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Donations may be made to a charity of choice. Visitation will also be in Fox & James Funeral Home, Eastville, Va., from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., with a graveside service following at 4 p.m.

Charles' determined spirit, life of good work, abundant knowledge, industrious manner and humor will be greatly missed by family and friends. His love of the bay and shore waters was evident wherever he resided; he always managed to have a creek nearby.
