Matthew Jackson Eure, 91, of Route 1, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 1995, in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk.
Mr. Eure was born in Gates County. The son of the late Jackson and Mrs. Jane Crawford Eure, he was a retired farmer. He was a lifelong member of Cool Spring Baptist Church and its Men's Bible Class, Woodmen of the World and an honorary member of Gates County Hunt Club. He was the husband of the late Lucy Crawford Eure.
Surviving are one daughter, Lois E. Smith, and her husband, the Rev. E. Cecil Smith of Suffolk; one son, Carlton ``Blue'' Eure, and his wife, Ann S. Eure of Franklin; a daughter-in-law, Ann K. Eure of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Cecil M. Smith of Disputanta, Va., I. Wayne Smith of Prince George, Va., Ernie J. Smith of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Steve Eure of Franklin and Janet Ambrose of Clarksville, Tenn.; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Wallace Eure.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Cool Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Horace Culpepper. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville. The family will assemble at the church at 1 p.m. Friday.
