COMMUNITY FORUM

The Outer Banks Community Foundation is hosting a forum to identify and define the qualities of life most important to residents of the Outer Banks area over the next 25 years.

The forum is scheduled for 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Ramada Inn in Kill Devil Hills. More than 80 invitations have been sent to representatives from all aspects of the community - government, business, senior citizens, youth/high school, education, nonprofit organizations, churches, media, social services, local parks, etc.

``This community forum will bring together selected leaders from Dare, Currituck and Hyde counties in a brainstorming session to determine what we most value in how to preserve or improve those aspects,'' said Daniel Khoury, chairman of the Outer Banks Community Foundation Grants Committee. ``The objective is to put into writing a shared vision and common goals for the Outer Banks for the year 2020.''

Forum objectives will be to define what is valued in terms of human services, environment, education, historic preservation, growth and development and communication. After the vision is outlined, groups will determine the roadblocks that might prevent the community from reaching these goals, and to determine responsibility for each vision statement.

``The forum will define, redefine, and clarify needs of the community and even determine potential roadblocks for reaching our goals.'' said Outer Banks Community Foundation Director Peggy Birkemeier. ``These vision statements can become a catalyst for future discussions as we share responsibility for reaching these goals in the 21st century.''

Participation in the forum is by invitation only. For more information, contact the Outer Banks Community Foundation at (919) 261-8839. by CNB
