The U.S. government has stepped up its investigation of oil fires in General Motors Corp.'s 1992-94 minivans. It also is investigating possible brake problems in Ford Motor Co.'s 1991-95 Explorer sport-utility vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in its Monthly Defect Investigation Report for January issued Wednesday, said that it also is looking at possible seat-latch failures in Chrysler Corp.'s 1991-92 Dodge Shadow and Plymouth Sundance compact cars, and reports of steering wheel separation in Chrysler's 1991-model Dodge trucks. All three automakers said that they are cooperating with the inquiries. (Bloomberg Business News) by CNB
