AT&T Corp., three regional Bell operating companies and a research center have formed a group to advance optical communications technology under a five-year, $100 million project. AT&T, Bell Atlantic Corp., Pacific Telesis Group, BellSouth Corp. and Bellcore, the research and development arm of the Baby Bells, said that they formed the group to improve the capacity and performance of optical communications.
