Funeral services for John Owen Jones, age 75, of Knoxville, will be held from the Evans-McCleery Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 7, 1995, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Robert Morris officiating. Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Knoxville, Iowa.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 10:00 a.m. Monday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Knoxville Rescue Unit.

Owen was born on Jan. 2, 1920, in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Margretta Owen Jones. He spent his early life in Knoxville and Albia, playing football for both schools.

Owen joined the Navy in 1938 and spent 23 years, serving in WWII and the Korean War. When he retired from the Navy he worked for the state of Virginia for 22 years.

Owen was a long time member of the Khedive Shrine Temple, the George W. Wright Lodge 346, the Arab Patrol, and Scottish Rite, of Norfolk, Va.

Owen married Doreen Oliver on June 12, 1945, in Portsmouth, Va. They lived most of the past 39 years in Norfolk, Va., moving back to Knoxville in 1985.

Owen passed away on Friday, March 3, 1995, at the Knoxville Community Hospital, at the age of 75 years, 1 month, 2 days.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

He is survived by his wife of Knoxville, one brother, Bob Jones of Des Moines, Ia., several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
