The Associated Press report ``GOP plan would cut school lunches'' (Feb. 23) shows once again how biased the media in general are in favor of the Democrats' view. The argument here is not over whether the federal school lunch program should or should not exist, but over who should control it.
House Republicans believe that the states should have control of these funds to spend as they see fit. This would reduce the bureaucracy, red tape and inefficiencies of the current federally controlled system, and, thus, reduce the overall cost of the program.
Although the Democrats feel they must oppose this change, they have no logical or intellectual grounds to do so. Democrats see this simply as a loss of power. Therefore, we get the personal attacks, lies and distortions of fact that are the trademarks of desperation.
The article's quotes and opinions were overwhelmingly one-sided and misleading. Does anyone at The Virginian-Pilot/Ledger Star read these Associated Press pieces before they are printed? I'll understand if no one wants to answer.
