ARCHITECTURAL
Cederquist Rodriguez Ripley in Norfolk promoted Donna Elliott and Robert Maslyn from interns to associates in its architectural and interior design firm. Elliott and Maslyn have been with the firm since 1991 and 1992, respectively.
Also, Jeff Tucker was promoted from a computer technician to computer aided design and drafting manager.
Curtis Jones was appointed a planner. Jones recently received his planning degree from the University of Virginia.
Clark, Nexsen, Owen, Barbieri, Gibson recently appointed Edward C. Westerman a staff engineer in its structural engineering department. Westerman, a civil engineer, was on the staff with Fraioli-Blum-Yesselman Associates in Norfolk.
The architectural firm also appointed Candi Vigenski marketing coordinator. Vigenski was a marketing director with Stroud, Pence & Associates in Virginia Beach.
EDUCATION
Suzanne Martin was appointed practicum director with Old Dominion University in Norfolk. She will be responsible for implementing the career advantage program and the guaranteed practicum experience this fall. Also, she will serve as director of the Career Management Center. Under the guaranteed practicum experience program, juniors and seniors will be given the opportunity to participate in a for-credit practicum in their field of study, giving them a career advantage.
Martin, who holds a master's degree in public administration, was director of Career Services at the University of Michigan at Flint. She has served as cooperative education coordinator for the College of Business Administration with the University of Central Florida, and director of Career Development and Placement with the State University of New York at Morrisville.
REAL ESTATE
Ronald M. Rubin was named senior vice president with The Breeden Co. in Virginia Beach. He will oversee the administrative and marketing operations of the company, and be responsible for more than 2,000 apartment units in the Tidewater area.
For the past five years, Rubin has been with the Harbor Group Commercial Real Estate Corp. in Norfolk as a senior vice president. He currently is chairman of the Tidewater Multifamily Housing Council and serves as a director with the Tidewater Builders Association.
CONSTRUCTION
Dennis B. O'Connor was elected vice president of REA Construction Co. in Norfolk. He will be responsible for all construction activity in the state and eastern North Carolina. O'Connor has been with REA since 1972. He most recently served as area manager for the state.
STOCK BROKERAGE
Davenport & Co. of Virginia Inc. in Virginia Beach promoted three brokers in its firm: William K. Mizell Jr. from a vice president to first vice president, Mario J. Papa from an associate vice president to vice president, and Lester F. Mutchler from an investment executive to an associate vice president.
Mizell and Papa have been with the firm since 1991, and Mutchler since 1990.
MID-ATLANTIC
Phyllis L. Cothran, president and chief operating officer of Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shield, was elected a member of the board of directors of Ethyl Corp. Cothran is a member of the board of directors of Tredegar Industries Inc., in Richmond.
Chesapeake Corporation, the Richmond-based paper and packaging company, said its board of directors nominated a new director, M. Katherine Dwyer, who is executive vice president and general manager of Mass Cosmetics for Revlon Consumer Products Corporation based In New York.
Eskimo Pie Corpo appointment Kimberly P. Ferryman vice president of quality assurance and product development. Ferryman has been employed with Eskimo Pie since 1978.
Owens & Minor Inc. made the following organizational changes: Craig R. Smith was promoted to chief operating officer. Smith has been with Owens & Minor since 1989 and served as a division vice president, a group vice president, senior vice president and, most recently, executive vice president.
F. Thomas Smiley, who has been with Owens & Minor since 1979, has been promoted to vice president of operations and cost management.
Charlie Colpo was promoted to vice president of inventory management, a newly created position. He will be responsible for the overall management plan that enhances Owens & Minor's ability to meet the supply needs of health-care facilities. Most recently, Colpo headed the business process redesign team that created the new inventory procedures.
ACCOUNTING
Katherine M. Little was appointed manager of the newly opened accounting office of Eason, Lawson & Westphal in Chesapeake. Little, a certified public accountant and financial planner, was a partner with the accounting firm of Ross, Langan and McKendree in Mclean.
Josie Paolucci was appointed marketing director with Failes and Associates in Virginia Beach. She will be responsible for business development, training and client service programming. Prior to joining the accounting firm, Paolucci was a project coordinator and trainer with Harris Publishing in Norfolk. She is a member of the Association for Accounting Marketing.
