JOSIE M. GLADSTONE

Josie M. Gladstone, 80, a retired registered nurse with Virginia Beach General Hospital, died March 5, 1995, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Gladstone was a native of Maysville, N.C. She graduated from the Wilmington Memorial Hospital Nursing School in 1935 and then practiced as a registered nurse for 50 years in North Carolina, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach. She retired first from Virginia Beach General Hospital and then from the Virginia Beach Health Department Visiting Nursing Program in 1984.

Mrs. Gladstone was the widow of Louis L. Gladstone. They lived in Portsmouth until his death in 1959, after which she moved to Virginia Beach.

She was a member of Temple Emanuel and its sisterhood in Virginia Beach. She was an active lay leader in Cub and Girl Scouting in the 1950's; she was a member of the Virginia and American Nursing Associations; she was a volunteer guide for the Virginia Beach Marine Science Museum; and was a member of the boards of the Virginia Beach Chapter of the American Cancer Society and the Virginia Beach Hospice.

Survivors include two daughters , Roslyn G. Brown and her husband Robert E. Brown of Norfolk and Diane G. Haskell and her husband Gary L. Haskell of Virginia Beach; one son, Irvin Gladstone and his wife Alicia, of Mary Esther, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 7, 1995 at Gomley Chessed Cemetery in Portsmouth by Rabbi Elliott M. Marmon. The family will receive friends at 1021 Bobolink Drive, Virginia Beach, following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Chapter of the American Cancer Society or a charity of donor's choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
