Frank L. McEachern, ``Chief Mac,'' 93, of Burleigh Avenue, died March 4, 1995, at his residence.
Mr. McEachern was a native of Columbus, Ga., and lived in Norfolk the last 50 years. He was the widower of Anna Louise McCraney McEachern.
Chief Mac began his fire service career with the Columbus, Ga. Fire Department, where his father, Monte McEachern, was fire chief. He served there until he became assistant fire chief for the Army at Fort Benning, Ga. He retired as fire chief of the Norfolk Naval Base Fire Department in December, 1974, after more than 30 years of service in Norfolk. His dedication to duty was recognized by admirals and commanding officers alike.
Survivors include a nephew, Robert M. McEachern and his wife, Virginia of Richmond, Va.; a niece, Roseanne Kendrick and husband, Rod, of Leeds, Ala., a niece, Suzanne P. Thames of Huntsville, Ala., a niece, Mary Sue McCraney of Leeds; a nephew, Philip Peterson of Athens, Ala.; as well as a number of grand nieces and nephews and two great-grand nieces.
The family will be at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday night to receive friends. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at 2 p.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association or local Hospice of one's choice.
