Thomas A. Mizell, 73, of the 2500 block of Gilmerton Road, died Saturday, in a Portsmouth hospital. Mr. Mizell was born in Bertie County, N.C., and was the son of the late Thomas Franklin and Eva Lee Mizell.
Mr. Mizell retired as a mechanic from St. Julians Ammunition Depot after more than 36 years of service. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Mizell was a member of the Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge 178; the Cradock Chapter 41 of the Disabled American Veterans and was also a member of the Green Cross Baptist Church, Windsor, N.C.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Mizell of Chesapeake; his daughter and son-in-law, Virginia Lee and Steven Hoyos of Newark, Del.; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Allen Thomas and Mary Mizell of Stephen City, Va., and Timothy Schirra and Teresa Mizell of Chesapeake; one brother, Franklin A. Mizell of Windsor, N.C.; six grandchildren, Leigh Anne, Christina, Paul, Phillip, Katheryn and Zachary Thomas.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Deep Creek United Methodist Church by the Rev. Brad Phillips. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, on Monday from 7 to 8 p.m.
