A Navy doctor was sentenced Monday to 38 months in prison and ordered to forfeit more than $100,000 in pay for taking indecent liberties with a child and lying on official military documents.
A panel of seven Navy officers deliberated for four hours before recommending that Capt. Marion Hollis Tanksley, 57, a flight surgeon at Oceana Naval Air Station, be dismissed from the service.
The sentence ended a two-week court-martial at which Tanksley was convicted of indecent liberties, obstruction of justice, making false official statements and false swearing.
Tanksley, who lives in Saluda on the Middle Peninsula, had been a Navy physician for 18 years and was the administrative director of the Oceana Branch Medical Clinic when he was arrested last July.
