John Melvin Bowers, 87, of Carnegie Gardens Nursing Center, died Feb. 28, 1995, in Holmes Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Bowers was born in Burlington, Vt., son of the late John and Marion Day Bowers of Southampton County, Va. He retired in 1974 from the U.S. Postal Service, New York, and moved to Carol City, Fla., where he was a member of Holy Family Episcopal Church of Diocese of Southeast Florida.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Theodora B. Bowers of Melbourne; two sisters, Ida B. Jones of Norfolk and Eleanor B. Harrison of Chesapeake; three brothers, Donald J. Bowers of Franklin, Charles A. Bowers of Richmond and Paul H. Bowers of Cleveland; and a host of other beloved relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Gilfield Baptist Church, Ivor, Va. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by McClenny & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. of Charlottesville, Va.
