EMMA B. UMPHLETT

Mrs. Emma ``Boots'' Barclift Umphlett, 89, of the 1200 block of Park Drive, died Tuesday morning at Guardian Care Nursing Home.

She was a native of Perquimans County, N.C., and a former Belk employee. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a former member of the Elizabeth City Womens Club. Mrs. Umphlett was the daughter of the late Willie and Nettie Turner Barclift and the wife of Lathan Van Umphlett Sr.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Umphlett is survived by a son, Lathan Van Umphlett Jr. and wife Carolyn B. Umphlett of Virginia Beach; three brothers, Kermit Barclift of Washington, D.C., Robert Barclift of Colonial Beach, Va., and Carlton Barclift of Maryland; one granddaughter, Sylvia U. Betz of Virginia Beach; and three great-grandchildren of Hillsville, Va. She is predeceased by a granddaughter, Gayle U. Harvey.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 10, 1995, at 2 p.m. in Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St. in Elizabeth City with the Rev. Milton Mann and the Rev. David Moerhing officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at the residence.
