MARIE R. COWAN

Mary (Roly) Cowan, 85, of White Birch Road, East Hampton, died Monday at Chestelm Convalescent Home, Moodus section of East Haddam. She was the wife of the late Clarence R. Cowan.

She was born in New Haven, Jan. 1, 1910, daughter of the late Alphonsus and Mary Elizabeth (Cuney) Roley, and had resided in East Hampton for six years having formerly lived in Norfolk, Va. for many years. She was a member of First Church of God, Norfolk, and was formerly active in the Norfolk Civic League.

She is survived by a brother, Russell Roly Sr. of Westchester; a nephew, Russell Roly Jr. of East Hampton, with whom she made her home; a niece, Joan Auger of Cooperstown, N.Y., and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in East Hampton Congregational Church with the Rev. Nancy Milton officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, East Hampton. Calling hours are today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Spencer Funeral Home, 112 Main St., East Hampton.
