COMMISSION TO HEAR SUPER KMART PROPOSAL

The Planning Commission will consider an application today for a Super Kmart proposed for Holland Road at Windsor Oaks Boulevard.

Larger than an average Kmart, the store would be open 24 hours a day and would share a 40-acre site with a strip shopping center to be built later.

The company has already agreed to set aside space for the widening of Holland Road, extend Windsor Oaks Boulevard, build a bike path and sidewalks, and install extensive landscaping. It has also agreed to aim parking lot lights away from adjacent neighborhoods, and to screen Dumpsters and direct loading areas away from homes.

The Chimney Hill Community Association, whose member homes are adjacent to the site, expressed some concerns about the proposed development in a March 2 letter addressed to the director of planning.

The group's liaison, Adam J. Jack, who signed the letter, said association members would oppose the plan if it did not provide for adequate buffers around their townhouses.

The Green Run Homes Association, which represents the subdivision several miles down Holland Road, sent a letter expressing ``wholehearted support'' for the development.

The Planning Commission meeting begins at noon in the City Council Chambers. by CNB
