WRECK KILLS DRIVER

A Suffolk man was killed and a passenger injured Monday night when the car they were in ran off the road and struck a tree.

Walter H. Parks, 22, was driving north on Route 636 just south of Fort Eustis Boulevard in a 1990 Nissan Sentra rental car. At 8:50 p.m., he apparently lost control of the car and ran off the right side of the road, state police said.

Parks then overcorrected and ran off the road's left shoulder, hitting a tree. He died an hour later at Riverside Regional Medical Center.

The passenger, 19-year-old Jovan Moss of Newport News, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.
