The real competition begins in just more than three weeks. But in the meantime, Southampton Speedway has two non-points events, plus an open practice session scheduled to get everyone ready.
Saturday, the Franklin Bowling Center and Sports Emporium will host the third annual car show and auction at the Armory Plaza Shopping Center in Franklin from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Randy Lajoie's MBNA-sponsored Winston Cup car will be on hand, as will the Dewalt Industrial Tools-sponsored Busch car driven by Emporia's Hermie Sadler and the Country Time race simulator will be on hand.
Later in the afternoon the auction will move to track for the first practice session of the '95 season. Grandstand admission for the practice session is free. Pit passes are $5.
All five weekly divisions (Late Model Sportsman, Sportsman, Limited Stock, Mini-Stock and Hobby Stock) will race in non-points races on March 19 and March 26. Gates open at noon, with practice at 1 p.m. and time trials at 2 p.m.
The points season begins on April 1. ILLUSTRATION: Staff photo by MICHAEL KESTNER
