It has been predicted for many years that the federal government's system of redistributing money under the Social Security Act (1935) would pit the young against the old. We see the ill will that is being bred in the letters in this section, feelings that are growing across the nation.
Social Security is an extremely poor alternative to investing in America. Social Security reduces the standard of living for all citizens, including retirees. Social Security does not create jobs, manufacture products or provide services that raise the standard of living in our country.
I am a self-employed father of three with a working spouse. I also have parents who are both in their 70s and are receiving Social Security benefits - after years of paying into the fund. I feel that I understand both positions. However, I think we are in error when we start fighting with each other over this serious matter.
Instead, we should work together to educate the people about what is going on. Or shall we passively resign ourselves and our children to being taken to the cleaners by Uncle Sam?
