The Pentagon has a new network of spies and military attaches collecting military information abroad, Jane's Defense Weekly reported Wednesday.
It said Lt. Gen. James Clapper, the director of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency, confirmed the new service operates clandestinely, but emphasized that its operations ``do not necessarily have to be `James Bond-type stuff.' ''
Intended to reduce duplication by the intelligence services of the different U.S. armed forces, the new service includes military personnel from each service and is responsible for handling all human intelligence collection by the Defense Department, the magazine said.
The U.S. military also uses spy satellites and aircraft.
Organizing the Defense HUMINT Service has been going on for several months, Jane's said. HUMINT stands for ``human intelligence.'' by CNB
