Meals-on-Wheels, in-home care, respite care and transportation to medical services receive crucial funding from the state government. House Bill 140 sought to reduce funding to these programs as part of Governor Allen's vision for the commonwealth. Governor Allen appears to have learned that citizens do not want such programs cut. The programs improve the lives of older adults and their middle-aged children who care for them.
In a 96-1 defeat of these cuts, Del. Leo Waldrup of the 83rd District cast the lone vote to support the ill-fated policies of King George. Voters need to remember where Mr. Waldrup's loyalties lie this November. They certainly do not lie with the senior citizens of this state.
