Local police are asking public assistance in solving these cases:

NORFOLK

On Thursday, March 2, just before 8 p.m., police were called to a traffic accident with injuries in the 800 block of Dennison Ave. in the Chesapeake Manor section.

When paramedics arrived, they discovered the injured driver had been shot.

The man, Dennis Bascom, 32, of Chesapeake, died a short time later at a local hospital.

Police have no suspect and no motive.

VIRGINIA BEACH

Unique jewelry was taken in two recent burglaries in the Lakespur section.

The first burglary occurred on Friday, Feb. 10, in the 900 block of Edwin Drive. The second occurred in the 4500 block of Kelley Court on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

More than $125,000 in property was stolen in the break-ins.

Among the items taken: a Cartier watch with a mother-of-pearl face and diamond band; a lion-head bracelet; a lion-head pendant with diamond eyes and mouth; lion-head earrings with emerald eyes; a 1992 Naval Academy ring; a 1988 Palmetto ring; a 1992 Pennsylvania State University ring; and other items. Also stolen was a 35mm Pentax camera and accessories.

PORTSMOUTH

Raymond Warren Shanks, 19, is wanted on suspicion of grand larceny, forgery and uttering.

Shanks is described as white, 5 feet 11 inches tall and about 170 pounds. He is believed to be in the company of a 13-year-old runaway who also is wanted for grand larceny, forgery, and uttering.

The pair are believed to have cashed several stolen checks in Portsmouth and Norfolk.

Their most recent attempt, police say, was at the Super Fresh supermarket in the 1200 block of Frederick Blvd. in Portsmouth on Jan. 30.

Raymond Shanks also is wanted in Norfolk for forgery and failure to appear in court.

CHESAPEAKE

Jeffery S. Coffield, 28, is wanted for failing to appear in court in connection with an indictment for throwing a missile at an occupied vehicle.

Randolph Adolph Drozd, 52, is wanted for probation violation stemming from a conviction of possession of cocaine.

Drozd is described as white, 6 feet 3 inches tall and 200 pounds.

HAMPTON

On Friday, Feb. 24, at 2:20 p.m., two men entered the Tidemark Bank branch in the 4900 block of W. Mercury Blvd.

The suspects, armed with semi-automatic handguns, approached the clerks and demanded money.

While fleeing the bank, the men discarded some clothing they wore during the robbery.

The first suspect, in his early 20s, is described as black, 5 feet 5 inches tall, 140 pounds. He was wearing a multicolored jacket, dark clothing and a ski mask. The second suspect, in his early 20s, is described as black, 5 feet, 6 inches tall, 170 pounds and was wearing dark clothing and a hooded sweatshirt.
